Easy dinner recipe: Shanghai Noodles

Prep time: 25 minutes

Cook time: 30 minutes

Serving: 8 people

Ingredients:

- 1/2 cup oyster sauce

- 2 tbsp of brown sugar

- 1/2 cup of water

- 6 minced garlic cloves (or as many to your liking)

- half an onion

- 1 stock of green onion

- half a cabbage

- 2 tbsp minced ginger

- 1 pack of fish balls

- 1 pack of shanghai stir fried noodles

- 1 pound of bonless/skinless chicken thighs

*** Please note this recipe has two options, you can make it with just fish balls, just chicken or a combination of the two. I make two because my kids love the one with just fish balls and the chicken is for me and my husband (momlife). I also don't put in any salt because the oyster has a lot of salt in it.

Directions:

1. Start with heating up the wok to low medium heat. Once the wok is heating up, start mincing the garlic, cut the scallions and onions. Put the minced garlic, onions and ginger.

2. Cut a cabbage in half. Start cutting the cabbage down into thin strips. Once the garlic, ginger and onion start browning, throw in the cut up cabbage.

3. Start cutting up the fish balls in half and cutting up the chicken into thin strips and place aside. Once the cabbage is wilted down put in the fish balls or chicken strips. Stir the mixture in the wok and let cook for 10 minutes.

4. While the fish balls or chicken is cooking. Mix together the oyster sauce, water and brown sugar mixture. Once the fish balls are slightly browned, pour in the sauce.

5. Turn the heat down to a low and when the sauce is slightly warmed up, put in the package of noodles. Make sure not to pull apart the noodles because they will break. Put on the lid for about 10 minutes. Once the 10 minutes is up flip the noodles around and start to gently pull the noodles apart, after the steam the noodles should pull apart easily,

6.Turn up the heat back up to medium low and let the noodles continue to cook in the sauce for another 10 minutes. After that it's ready to serve.

Side note: Here is a picture of some substitutes if you cannot find the oyster sauce at the asian supermarket.
